Choose the most suitable lining for your curtains

Lady showing lined curtains and curtain lining fabrics

A lining is an additional layer of fabric added to curtains or Roman blinds to improve their appearance, performance and durability. Adding this extra layer gives curtains more body, volume and structure, helping them hang beautifully and creating a fuller, more luxurious finish. Lining can also provide additional benefits such as light control, insulation and protection for the face fabric. All Ada & Ina lining fabrics are available in white or ivory, helping to preserve the true colour and appearance of your chosen curtain fabric. The right lining can make a noticeable difference to both the look and feel of your finished curtains.

Cotton lining

195 g/m²

Cotton lining is a lightweight, natural fabric that adds an extra layer to your curtains or Roman blinds. It helps give the finished product more strength, stability and structure while allowing the main fabric to drape beautifully. Cotton lining also provides a moderate level of light filtration, reducing some daylight without creating a blackout effect. It is a good choice when you want a simple, breathable lining with a natural feel.

Blackout lining

260 g/m²

Blackout lining is a slightly heavier fabric than standard cotton lining and adds extra body and structure to curtains or Roman blinds. The blackout lining fabric does not allow any light to pass through it. It is especially suitable for bedrooms, nurseries and other spaces where strong light control is important. Blackout lining can also improve insulation and help protect the main curtain fabric from sunlight.

Thermal lining

150  g/m²

A slightly thicker fabric than cotton lining, used for thermally insulated curtains. Thermal lining helps improve insulation by preventing heat from escaping in winter and protecting your home from heat in summer — insulated curtains often help with energy costs.  It also softens daylight and glare, but does not provide complete blackout.

Blackout and Interlined

400 g/m²

Bonded blackout with interlining is a much thicker option than standard blackout, cotton or thermal lining. It provides excellent light blocking while adding extra body, softness and fullness to your curtains. The additional layer offers enhanced thermal insulation, helping retain warmth in winter and reduce heat entering the room in summer. It can also help reduce outside noise, making it a good choice for bedrooms, city homes and rooms facing busy streets.

Cotton and Interlined

270 g/m²

Cotton with interlining — thicker than normal blackout, cotton or thermal lining. It offers all the benefits of cotton lining and is excellent for thermal insulation, and ideal for curtains and Roman blinds to improve drape and appearance. It also has noise-reducing properties, helping soundproof windows facing noisy streets or city apartments.
